The Film Company is a film production company based on Koh Tao, Thailand. We are a small team of dedicated professionals who live for filmmaking. Creativity is our watch-word and anything that interests us, or you can become the subject of a documentary or short film.

Our expertise in underwater videography, cinematography and post-production will make your project shine. Much of our inspiration comes from filming the amazing underwater world surrounding us in the Gulf of Thailand, specialising in providing underwater camera crews and creating personalized dive and resort videos.

We are also a fully equipped training facility. We have courses catering to those interested in a career in all aspects of film and video making - from pre to post production. Courses are designed to equip you with the tools to become a creative film professional both in and out of the water.

Unfortunately routine runs the majority of people’s lives and if you are following a routine, day in day out, things rarely change.

You think what you thought the day before, you feel the way you felt before, you do what you did before. After continually repeating this cycle one day you’ll wake up and find yourself far from the kind of life you always wanted to live.

Have you ever wondered what its like to feel free in the ocean, to relax on a beach as the sun goes down on another adventurous days diving? How many people can say they have seen the silver sparkle of the sun off the ocean, felt the cool breeze running over their face as they approach the dive site. Imagine looking down through the crystal clear waters, like Alice through the looking glass’ only this time it’s real, it’s you and it is just the beginning.

Philosophy

-The world through our eyes

Whether you are filming underwater or on dry land, for the big screen or a TV ad, the principles of good story telling and filmmaking are the same.

We believe that the best results are achieved by combining great camerawork with superlative editing skills, giving you and your viewer the best possible experience.

Great shots and camera skills are fundamental to the creation of high quality creative film and video work.  How you present these images is then the key to how your work is read and the quality of the production.

We teach our crew members to think like a director and function as a complete production team, working from story-boarding right through to post production.
Your concerns will be many what is the audience going to be thinking at any particular moment? Where are they going to be looking? What do you want them to think about? And of course, what do you want them to feel?
These considerations are the central pre-occupation of a film editor/director and the creative cornerstone upon which all your technical decisions must be taken.

Courses

We pride ourselves on producing not only creative filmmakers but professionals who are equipped for the rigors of careers in dive and film industries.

Staying true to our philosophy a student on our course  produces, directs and edits their own film(s) supported by their tutor. You will get the full benefit and experience of training in a professional environment whilst being taught only the most relevant and up to date content.

We will encourage you to develop your own distinct ‘Voice’ as a filmmaker, asking you to reflect and adopt your own responses in relation to the acquired knowledge and skills. We will also make sure you have plenty of opportunity to explore film as a medium for your own self-expression.

ACTIVE PARTICIPATORY LEARNING

We believe that the learning experience is most effective when you actively take part in the process. Wherever possible we avoid the lecture format and most of your time will be spent in the water, or in the studio participating in active discussions and completing practical exercises. Making your own filmmaking decisions in a supported, structured environment.

UNDERWATER VIDEOGRAPHY COURSE

This fourteen day hands-on course introduces the primary skills set required to produce top quality camera work on land and in the water and introduces the basic interfaces of Final Cut Pro. By the end of this course you will have story boarded, filmed, directed and edited your own film, based on divers participating in activities at one of our partnered dive resorts.

RESORT VIDEOGRAPHER INTERNSHIP
(Only available after the underwater videography course)

The Resort Videographer Internship course follows on from the videography course; it is designed to ensure you have the skills needed to work as an independent videographer.

The basic training received on the videography course is built upon in the following weeks as you develop your skills and knowledge in a professional environment. Giving you all the practical tools to produce professional work every time and to allow your creativity to take centre stage.

Working with our partnered dive resorts, there will be many opportunities for professional work during the internship; the course timescale will be adapted to suit your schedules, aptitudes and capabilities.

To participate in the courses you MUST be at least a PADI/SSI certified Rescue Diver or a BSAC Sport Diver with 50+ logged dives (or an appropriate equivalent). To become an underwater videographer you must be a competent diver, don’t worry if your not there yet though please contact us we can assist you in achieving your goals.

The courses are available all year round and can be achieved alongside Dive-Master or even Instructor training courses. Spaces however are limited so must be booked in advanced.

The Crew

Videography  is a tough job to master but an extremely rewarding career  for those who have the tenacity for the training programme. We encourage the individuality of  all of  our  trainees and videographers and strive to constantly develop  their skills what ever stage of their career they are at. Each person has a different style and eye and brings something new to the table, we all learn from each other.  You have to love the ocean and hard work , it’s a demanding job but the creative results are more than worth it. We’re tough because we demand the best out of our videographers but the people that we train and work with are the best! They are back-bone of our business with out them, and their abounding enthusiasm, professionalism and talent we wouldn’t be where we are today.
